Southwest Georgia Family Medicine Residency Program
During the mid 1980's, the Georgia legislature recognized the need for more primary care physicians in Southwest Georgia and acted decisively to facilitate the development of a new Family Medicine Residency Program to meet that need. After a thorough review of the existing 38 county regional medical centers, Phoebe was chosen as the ideal site for this program.
The Southwest Georgia Family Medicine Residency program, established in 1993 is one of the ways we have addressed the shortage of health care professionals in the region. Our program is designed to provide family physicians with the knowledge, skills, and professional contacts needed to practice quality family medicine in Southwest Georgia. The Residency program, located at Phoebe Northwest, is the training location for these physicians, 70 percent of whom practice within 100 mile radius of Albany after graduating from the program.
Phoebe Northwest is located at: 2336 Dawson Road Albany, Georgia 31707 229-312-8750
