Get a Grip – Take Precautions. Prevent Falls.
A fall can happen to anyone at any age. To prevent falls at Phoebe, patients who are at high risk for falling will receive a pair of non-skid yellow socks to wear. These yellow socks are our newest tool in our patient safety tool- kit.
Wearing them not only helps prevent falls, but tells others they require special attention.
Patients who are at greater risk for falling also receive a wristband and their rooms will be marked with a yellow falling star to indicate to family members, medical personnel and visitors that they are a Fall Risk. These indicators will alert others that they need a little extra assistance.
Patients wearing these socks and wristbands will flag hospital personnel to assist that patient as they walk to the bathroom, to get something out of reach, or take short walks down the hall.
Let’s remind our patients that should they require assistance with toileting, getting something across the room, or feel compelled to get out of bed unattended, please stop, use their call light instead to alert the nursing station that they need help. Someone will be with them soon. Remember, yellow represents caution - or wait for assistance.
