Phoebe Family Medicine Ashburn Closing
SYLVESTER, Ga. —The Phoebe Family Medicine Ashburn Clinic will cease operation as of August 31, 2013. The decision to close the practice was announced and notices to employees and patients began today. The center had five employees, the majority of whom will have opportunities to transfer elsewhere within Phoebe Putney Health System.
The Ashburn Clinic, which also operates as a Georgia Rural Health Clinic has been unable to financially sustain itself. “Uncertainty about reimbursements from payers, including Medicare, Medicaid and the growing number self-pay patients is making it very difficult for hospitals and medical practices such as the Ashburn Clinic to remain open,” said Kim Gilman, chief administrative officer, Phoebe Worth Medical Center. Gilman added, “The center was losing thousands of dollars every month and has lost $2.3 million dollarssince 2008. We could not continue to operate it in the red.”
There will be no disruption of care provided to patients who were served at the Ashburn Clinic; Patients who received their medical care therewill have their records moved to Phoebe WorthFamily Medicine in Sylvester, located at 1014 W. Franklin Street. As notices to the public are being made, information about our SylvesterClinic is also being provided.
“It’s our goal to continue to meet the healthcare needs of our communities. While we regret that the difficult decision had to be made to close the Phoebe Family Medicine Ashburn Clinic, we are happy to be able to offer the medical services of the wonderful staff at our Sylvester Clinic,” said Gilman.
To better serve the rehabilitation needs of the residents in Ashburn and Turner County, Phoebe is exploring the feasibility of offering additional preventive and wellness services at the Ashburn Clinic location. More information about that will be made available as soon as possible.
