Each year more than 500 men, women, college students and teens give of their time serving patients, families and busy staff.

Volunteers enjoy many of the same benefits as Phoebe employees, including gift shop and cafeteria discounts, invitations to attend special events and volunteer appreciation activities.

Volunteering at Phoebe's Main Campus

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer at Phoebe's main campus, please

College Student Volunteers
 
For an application packet, please call (229) 312-4336. The deadline for accepting college applications for Spring Semester 2013 is December 5.
 
Requirements for the college program:
  • Complete an application
  • Consent to a background check paying the $33.50 fee. Checks may be made payable to Phoebe Volunteer Services
  • Provide documentation of up to date immunizations
  • Provide documentation of 2 TB tests in the last 12 months
  • Complete health screening with Employee Health Services (students not immune to specific diseases will be asked to receive the vaccine through an outside source at their expense)
  • Provide two references
  • Purchase a student shirt ($17.12)
  • Attend orientation

Volunteering is not limited to Phoebe's main campus. Volunteers are needed at other locations including Phoebe Sumter, Phoebe WorthDorminy Medical Center and Albany Community Hospice.

During 2009-2010, 512 Phoebe volunteers contributed nearly 52,409 hours of their time. They shuttled 25,579 visitors to and from the parking lot, delivered 2,512 pieces of mail, assembled 1,500 charts, acknowledged 109 patient birthdays, delivered 1,428 Magic Moments, took over 1,143 blood pressures at our monthly community screening, sewed 1,469 teddy bears, 441 personal pockets, 254, breast pillows, 305 bibs, and crocheted 62 caps and 381 blankets for preemies. A skilled group of volunteers constructed 65 wheelchair ramps at the homes of medically disabled citizens.
